Under the Modular First Degree programme students are required to pass 18 modules or be credited with a mixture of modules and exemptions equating to 18 modules. 

Entry to the programme is by proof of a full level 3 qualification or recent study and production of an essay set by SEU tutors.  The first model taken must be study skills unless exemption has been approved by SEU staff.

The remaining modules are topics to be agreed with an SEU tutor and can be from different subject areas.  Assessment of each module will be by essay the title of which will be set or agreed by an SEU tutor. There will be time limits on the submission of each essay. Two of the final 6 modules can be combined as a research project if agreed with SEU staff.

Should a student need to withdraw from the programme they can be awarded a Diploma if 6 modules have been passed, an Associate Degree if 12 modules have been passed and certificates for any other modules passed. The module awards will be accompanied by an endorsement of the title of modules passed.

As with all SEU awards students are encouraged to apply for past certificated learning to be accepted as meeting the requirements for some of the modules, life skills will not be accepted and exemption from the full programme can not be awarded.

Exemptions will be awarded on an individual basis at the discretion of SEU staff tutors.
