All Degree Programmes run by the University are in two Parts:

Part 1
consists of academic attainment.

For a Bachelor’s Degree this will consist of a qualification gained or already gained through a professional body or organisation, which is acceptable to the University and either a certificate in study skills or have been given exemption from it.

Each Faculty page indicates those existing qualifications that will be accepted; however, if a student has any qualifications of a like standard, that are not indicated, then the University will consider them for approval. In such a case, approval should be obtained from the University prior to Registration onto the Programme.

Evidence of attainments already gained must be submitted when enrolling for Registration. If the applicant has no acceptable prior qualifications, then the Faculty can enrol him or her onto a course of study for the recommended qualification with the appropriate body.

For a Master’s Degree academic achievement will consist of a Bachelor’s Degree either through Southern Eastern University or through any other University acceptable to SEU, or a professional qualification (such as a Barrister, Solicitor, Attorney, Accountant or similar), or having been made a Fellow of a professional or other body or organisation. Evidence of attainment will be required on enrolment.

For a Doctorate, academic achievement by way of a Master’s Degree acceptable to SEU, or a professional qualification as above, coupled with considerable experience will be required. Applicants will have to supply the fullest evidence of this and satisfy the University as to why they need or desire a Doctorate.

Doctorates are only awarded to mature persons seeking full career development and/or status and are only awarded by way of substantial working experience, research and Thesis.

The Research must be specific to a subject/topic, which is of importance in the field of study. It must embrace substantial original primary and secondary research and must be of ‘value’, either academically or practically within the sphere of the candidate’s professional life.

It is a condition of admittance onto the Programme that the Candidate’s work is monitored to the extent that the Candidate is required to submit a progress Report to the Association every three months.

The finished Thesis must, after initial approval, be ‘defended’ by the candidate either at a panel to be convened by SEU or by two individuals of the candidate’s choosing experienced in a like field. Further details of this requirement will be supplied to the candidate at the appropriate time.

Candidates must submit, along with their Application for Registration onto the Programme a full, and as detailed as possible, CV. The more information that can be given regarding the Candidates previous qualifications - academic and otherwise, their work experience, appointments and published works (if any), the quicker a decision regarding acceptance onto the Programme can be made.

Those who are awarded a Doctorate may, at the discretion of the University, be appointed Fellows of the University and Members of their Faculty. It is a pre-condition of the Award that all successful graduates obtain the Faculty Doctoral robes and cap and (if resident in the UK) attend the Conferring Ceremony (which is held at the same time as Graduation Ceremonies).

Part 2
of the Programme for a Bachelor’s Degree requires the student to undertake substantial research and the writing of a Dissertation of at least 20,000 words, on a subject to be approved by the University. This Part of the Degree Programme cannot be completed in less than twelve months and must be completed in no longer than eighteen months.

For a Master’s Degree the word count must be not be less than 25,000 words within the same time scale

In the case of a Doctorate, a 50,000 word Thesis is required within a time scale of between 18 - 24 months.

There are no exemptions from Part 2 of the Programmes.

Each student at all three degree levels will be provided with an extremely comprehensive Manual to guide and help them in connection with their research and with the preparation and writing of their dissertation. This covers planning of work, research methods and techniques, information gathering, information analysis, information evaluation, setting conclusions and recommendations, putting the dissertation together, layout and submission.

In addition the University will, through an assigned instructor, provide unlimited continuing help and guidance if needed, particularly in the formative stage in assisting candidates in their choice of a suitable topic/ subject for their research and their Dissertation.

Any time extensions needed for the completion of Dissertations or Theses will be sympathetically considered by the University and will be granted in unavoidable circumstances.

Applicants should look under the appropriate Faculty to see the exact requirements necessary for any particular degree. For example, the University holds a taught MBA (Master’s Degree in Business Administration) in London, England, which does not follow the above general pattern.

S.E.U has truly designed and implemented a program that is unique as well as challenging and one that meets the high academic standards of the industry. The opportunity that this University offers, creates the demand, recognition and needs that students and tutors have longed for in a market driven environment. The continued success of SEU as an educational leader will provide the framework for others to follow across the globe… I respectfully applaud Southern Eastern University.”

The Degree Programme was an ideal fit with my lifestyle. I was given the opportunity to study at my own pace and in a location that was suitable to going out to work and raising a family. Those that developed the programme appear to have understood the needs of the mature student ... I would not be within my present job as Head of the Family Dept., without my Degree and ... owing to the research that I undertook I have come to be recognised in my area as an expert in the field of domestic violence ... please pass on my gratitude to all concerned.
